I was invited to participate in an exhibition about the process of exchange and the consequences of miscommunication. I asked the exhibition organisers to hire a trained dancer for me to perform with at the opening. I pieced together footage from musicals and dance videos to arrive at the choreography and wrote a monologue about romantic relationships that echoed the movements in the dance. At the start of the performance I am lying on the ground, seemingly unconscious - I am brought to life and swept off my feet by my dance partner. The musical accompaniment is Julio Iglesias' Viens M'embrasser which fades out in order for me to say my monologue. Once I am done speaking Iglesias' song Vous Les Femmes begins. And to this song's much more upbeat tempo we dance again but with much more 80s/90s pop-influenced dance moves. Eventually the dancer and I take turns lifting one another up.
